Parks and Active Nature
Sandwiched between the spinal range of the Apennines and the glinting Adriatic Sea, the Marche region boasts natural beauties and amazing protected areas:
- two National parks: Sibillini Mountains and Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga;
- four Regional parks: Monte Conero, Sasso Simone and Simoncello, Monte San Bartolo and Red Gorge and Frasassi;
- six natural reserves: Fiastra Abbey, Ripa Bianca, Sentina, Furlo Gorge, Monte San Vicino and Monte Canfaito, and Torricchio Mountain.
The mountains and streams of the Marche region are ideal opportunities for winter sports, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, free flight, caving and canyoning. There are wide areas dedicated to cycling tourism, golf, riding or simply walking routes where visitors can admire magnificient flora and fauna. Clear water are perfect places for other types of sports: sup, sailing, kite-surfing and diving.

In the heart of the Regional Park of Gola della Rossa and Frasassi are the spectacular Frasassi caves, one of Italy's largest and most famous complex of caves.

Winter in the Marche region
Winter in the Marche region has a special charm: the whole territory gathers around traditions, small villages become nativity scenes and enliven with Christmas markets; the cities of art light up, shining with culture, gastronomic traditions and New Year's Eve celebrations; the mountain welcomes adults and children in the ski slopes, snow parks and warm shelters.
At Christmas there many popular nativity scenes attracting visitors each year.
The most popular is the Nativity in Genga, in the Frasassi Gorge, where the Nativity scene characters wear costumes taken from the famous painting "Adoration of the Magi" by Gentile da Fabriano.
