The organic production chain

A list of companies and cooperatives working according to high quality standards
Over 2,300 farming enterprises employing around 2,288 workers and with a surface area of more than 57,000 hectares given over to organic farming, accounting for over 12% of the regional agricultural surface area. These are the figures of a regional movement which for some decades now has made organic farming not an ambition but a deliberate choice. It is no mere coincidence that the region has witnessed the birth of the first five historic organic cooperatives that are still in operation and which export to various EU and non-European countries, which have been joined over time by numerous businesses with Organic product sales outlets throughout the whole of the Marche region.

The foundation is formed by the Marche Region, the province of Ancona, the municipality of Castelfidardo, CARILO Foundation and the association Italia Nostra Onlus. The foundation owns the Marche Environmental Education Center, as well as 10-hectare olive grove. After 20 years of abandonment, in 2008 the activities for protecting the olive grove and the agricultural landscape of Marche began. Visitors have also the possibility to walk along these fields, to collect herbs and fruits, to do sports activities. In addition, educational and cultural activities for students and citizens are organized such as the olive harvest, guided tours to discover Castelfidardo and other places nearby. The foundation earnings from the sale of the extra-virgin olive oil are used to create activities and projects for the citizens’ welfare and the land protection.
